Most of us, at some point in our life, have probably been told, "oh, it's just a phase, you'll grow out of it". For some it was, but if you are reading this now, you're like me and never outgrew that phase. We have definitely all had days that made us want to call it quits on being the "horse kid". The tough days are all worth it when you have the perfect ride and your partnership becomes like a beautiful dance. In the end, it doesn't matter Western or English, stock or pleasure, it's about the relationship, the journey and the community. Community... that's what I found in NMAWHC not long after I moved to Traverse City. I had left behind the world of stock horses and chasing cans in the U.P. and traded it for showing in the All-around and owning a breed I swore I never would, the Arabian. Many things have changed in the last 10 years, but 2 things that have been constants in my life since then have been my loyal gelding and this club. It is a safe place to learn and show while making friends and family. This year, let's honor the past, embrace new adventures and encourage the next bunch of "it's not just a phase horse kids", regardless of age. I look forward to seeing y'all this summer in the show pen!
